Environmental considerations are an important aspect of NZEC's assessment of export transactions. NZEC's environmental policy is intended to mitigate any adverse environmental impact from export transactions guaranteed by NZEC.

NZEC's environmental policy is based on the Common Approaches on the Environment and Officially Supported Export Credits developed within the OECD.

The policy is applicable to transactions that involve a repayment period of two years or more and where NZEC's guaranteed amount exceeds NZ$ 20 million.

As part of this policy, the NZEC has introduced an environmental screening procedure as a part of the assessment of applications for export credit guarantees. If the review reveals a risk of negative environmental impact, applicants may also be expected to submit answers to the NZEC's Environmental Questionnaire below.
