NZEC Newsletter - September 2024
Kia ora koutou from the NZEC team,
Spring is just around the corner and what better time than now to reflect on what has been a very busy period in the world of Export Credit! Our team have been working on a variety of transactions and engagements throughout the regions, and the snapshot below of our FY24 results speak for themselves!
In this newsletter we feature the resiliency of a Hawke’s Bay based orchard and their post Cyclone Gabrielle redevelopments to continue meeting international demand for their apples. We also provide an insight into our FY24 numbers, including a summary on the claims we paid during the period.
As usual, we have a lot to update you on, so we thank you for taking the time to stay up to date and hope you enjoy your reading!
Kiwi Crunch - 'Growing the best apples in the world'#
Peter Rowe from Export Credit recently featured on a short video showcasing the recovery of Hawke’s Bay orchard ‘Kiwi Crunch’ post Cyclone Gabrielle. Produced by ASB, the video brings focus to the resiliency of Kiwi Crunch during a period of uncertainty and their ability to push through adversity, redevelop their business strategy and continue to meet the global demand for their apples. In collaboration with ASB and NZEC, Kiwi Crunch were able to access a working capital facility to fund their redevelopment. Hawke's Bay Export Awards#
ExportNZ recently marked the tenth anniversary of their Hawke’s Bay Export Awards. These awards are excellent at showcasing the benefits of exporting and acknowledging exporters who are succeeding in international markets. The exporter featured in our case study above, Kiwi Crunch took out the award for ‘Excellence in Sustainability’. Our own Michael and Renee were in attendance and were extremely happy to see Kiwi Crunch receiving the recognition they deserve.
FY24 In Review #
Entering a new financial year offers a chance to reflect on the past year and celebrate our achievements. Demand for our services remains elevated as we navigate through a period of global economic uncertainty. Stay tuned to our website and LinkedIn over the next few months as we finalise and release our FY24 Annual Report. Meanwhile, here’s a preview of some key metrics from the upcoming report.
Supporting you when things go wrong#
Worrying about being paid can keep any exporter up at night. Our trade credit insurance is designed to help exporters rest easy, knowing that NZEC is here if things go wrong. NZEC’s insurance and guarantee solutions for exporters engaged in international trade are designed to ensure exporters receive payment for their products or services, even when unforeseen circumstances impact their receivables.
In FY 2023/24, NZEC paid NZD 1.38m in claims to cover exporter shortfalls related to unpaid invoices and legal costs associated with recovery actions.

Team Update#
Since our last update there has been movement within the team. In June, we farewelled Sarah onto her next journey. Sarah was with the team for just under a year and her work was critical in the successful delivery of a key strategic initiative – we look forward to sharing more about this initiative with you shortly! We thank Sarah for her efforts and wish her the best in her next endeavours. In more people news, Caiden was promoted from Team Assistant to our Process & Reporting Analyst. In this role, Caiden will lead the delivery of both our internal and external reporting obligations, implementation of automated reporting and continue to support the wider team by providing accuracy in our transactional and financial reports. Congratulations Caiden!
And finally, a couple recent pictures of our Origination team and their unintentional matching outfits. If we were honest, we probably all need a wardrobe makeover!
